मराठी लिखाण देवनागरी लिपींत केलें ज़ातें. संगणकावर देवनागरी लिपींत लेखन करण्यासाठीं दोन प्रमुख keyboard layouts वापरले ज़ातातः इन्स्क्रिप्ट् , आणि फ़ोनेटिक्. त्यांपैंकीं फ़ोनेटिक् layout च्या keyboard assignments पुढें दाखविल्या आहेत.

First, मराठी should be among the indic languages installed on your system, with the phonetic keyboard layout (in addition to perhaps other indic languages and/or other keyboard layouts). It's easy to do under GNU/linux. For example, under Ubuntu:

1. System | Administration | Language Support etc etc. (I chose iBus, then chose Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Sanskrit, etc. I've installed several keyboard layouts for these indic languages. itrans, inscript, and phonetic for both ગુજરાતી and मराठी. I've installed itrans, kgp and inscript for ಕನ್ನಡ.)

2. System | Preferences | iBus preferences (The default iBus preferences cause ctl-spacebar to change the script I'm using. That makes it easy to switch between scripts in mid-sentence.)

The main complaint I have about this assignment is that I haven't found the पूर्णविराम in the keyboard assignment shown below. It will be noticed that the '.' key produces the दण्ड ( । ) which ends Hindi sentences. (btw, the shifted '.' key yields the नुक्ता. See below.) To obtain the मराठी पूर्णविराम, I have to ctl-spacebar to switch to the standard English keyboard; press the '.' key to produce the English fullpoint; and ctl-spacebar again to get back to मराठी . It was a crock, but I soon got used to this minor inconvenience.
